I really enjoyed this book. I went into it not knowing what to expect. All I had was that it was one of the recent fantasy greats. They weren't wrong. I am impressed by how Susanna manages to create so much wonder in a setting that is relatively simple. I think this comes from the perspective character truly caring about the place he has found himself. The house feels both vast and lonely and Susanna does this so effortlessly. I also enjoyed how there is a slow build of tension with practically no fighting. Some of my favourites such as The Hobbit have minimal fighting and it is something I think we need more of in fiction. This is a book unlike many others and I wholeheartedly recommend it and so I will say no more about it.
