Spec Ops - The Line Review

Spec Ops: The Line is a combination of mediocre cover shooter and a decent story. Combat feels like any other cover shooter and doesn't really do anything particularly unique. The squad commands are rare in games, but are rarely needed and don't do much other than giving your squad targets. At the time when this came out the story was probably a standout, but similar ideas have been executed better since. The game also had the same issues for me as The Last of Us: Part Two, where you know the main character is making the wrong choices but you are forced to continue on with no other choice. This allows for an impactful story, but feels a bit insulting to the player who would not have made those choices in a more open game. It isn't bad and it asks some interesting questions, but it also isn't something I would come back to.
